However, prior to the events of the game, Huggy Wuggy was modified—his human conscience was somehow transferred into him, but in a corrupted form—transforming him into a terrifying monster. His first appearance involves him pretending to be a statue to deceive the protagonist. Once the player retrieves the key and restores power to a certain room, Huggy Wuggy dislodges from his pedestal and begins stalking the player from vents and high, inaccessible areas throughout the game. It isn’t until the player ventures into the dark that Huggy Wuggy emerges from the shadows, chasing them through conveyor belt tunnels. If the player fails to reach the catwalk at the end of the belt, Huggy Wuggy appears clutching and attacking them with its teeth. If the player succeeds in reaching the catwalk, they can push a box to block the creature, then destroy it, causing both of them to fall. Whether Huggy Wuggy survives the fall or is destroyed remains unknown, as it crashes into pipes and disappears into the void.
